Great Portland Estates plc (GPE) announces the structural completion of 2 Aldermanbury Square, EC2 and has hosted a Topping Out Ceremony to mark this milestone together with construction partners Lendlease, and customer Clifford Chance, who will take possession in early 2026.
As part of the ceremony, Lendlease Project Director, Tom Walker invited GPE’s Chief Executive, Toby Courtauld, Chris Hayward, Policy Chairman of the City of London Corporation, and Simon Booth, Interim Global Head of Property Portfolio from Clifford Chance to plant ‘The Winged Spindle Tree’ on the terrace of 2 Aldermanbury Square, where over 200 guests were welcomed to the ceremony; guests included Cogent, Gardiner & Theobald, Allies & Morrison, Arup, Sweco, William Hare, Keltbray and several of the extended supply chain network on this project.
2 Aldermanbury Square will deliver 322,600 sq ft of brand new, premium space into a vibrant city location, together with public realm and amenity improvements that will have a positive impact on the local community. This landmark development demonstrates GPE’s approach to creating exceptional workplaces, combining premium design with cutting-edge sustainability credentials. It also showcases GPE’s innovative approach to the circular economy, with over 1,700 tonnes of steel carefully recovered from the original building during deconstruction and repurposed for the construction of 30 Duke Street, EC1, eliminating nearly all of the embodied carbon associated with the steel in its construction. 2 Aldermanbury Square is expected to complete in Q1 2026, with all of the office space pre-let to Clifford Chance.
It was brilliant to bring everyone together to celebrate this landmark moment, ahead of handing the building over to the team at Clifford Chance next year. Through the extensive re-use of materials, both in this building and across our portfolio, we are creating high quality, low carbon, climate resilient spaces that put the customer first, and will provide a lasting benefit for London.
